What is a tribute gift?
A tribute gift memorializes or honors a family member or friend while also supporting the Fairmont State
-Pierpont Foundation. Gifts In Memory Of (IMO) or In Honor Of (IHO) alumni, friends, faculty, staff and
students celebrate the relationship individuals have with Fairmont State University or Pierpont Community
& Technical College and their community as they impact the educational experience students and faculty share
on campus each day.

Gifts may be designated to create an endowed scholarship if the total reaches $25,000 or an
Endowed Fund if it reaches $10,000.

ADVANTAGES OF A BEQUEST
●CONTROL: After spending a lifetime accumulating your wealth and possessions, you should
have a say in how those assets get distributed at your death. Rather than leave the disposition
of your assets to the government, the creation of a will allows you to define your legacy
through the choices you make.
●EASE: A few sentences in your will can complete the gift.
●TAX BENEFITS: You may be entitled to an unlimited estate tax charitable deduction for
bequests to qualified charitable organizations.
●FLEXIBILITY: Until your will goes into effect, you are free to alter your plans.
●VERSATILITY: A bequest lets you balance philanthropic goals with concerns you may have
about living expenses, future medical costs, and the needs of loved ones. You can bequeath
a specific item, an amount of money, a gift contingent upon certain events, or a percentage or
remainder of your estate.
●SATISFACTION: Besides the pure joy associated with helping others, you may also discover
you can support Fairmont State University or Pierpont Community & Technical College in a
more substantial and meaningful way than you thought possible through a bequest.
●RECOGNITION: Documentation of your bequest gift will enable you to be recognized as a
member of the 1865 Heritage Society - a recognition society established to honor legacy
donors. 1865 Heritage Society gifts are perpetual and ensure continued recognition of your
family name for generations.
